The Groundrules
There are plenty (PLENTY) of places you can go to read extremely amusing and fashionable people make fun of other people for their choices in dress and appearance. There are entire tv shows dedicated to the Schadenfreude of mocking other’s clothing and style decisions (or lack thereof).
THIS IS NOT THAT PLACE.
We will talk about the outcomes of decisions here, and sometimes we may say that a choice is bad or wrong. What we mean is that it is not the right decision if your goal is to end up looking professional and being taken seriously.
FASHION IS NOT MORAL.
Being unfashionable – or even downright ugly – is not a moral failing. It does not make a person a bad person or diminish their worth in any way. It just means that, most likely, they don’t care about that. And it’s perfectly ok not to care how you look, just like it’s perfectly ok to have to ask someone else for help anytime you need to install a print driver.
WE DO NOT MOCK.
There will be no tolerance in this blog for demeaning comments, bashing, degrading, judging, devaluing or otherwise making someone feel badly because of the way they look. Just to be clear: even if that person is a celebrity and in a million years will never read this … this is a place where it is ok to look exactly the way you walked out of the house this morning. It’s also a place to give you advice if YOU are not satisfied with how you walked out of the house this morning.
MEAN PEOPLE WILL NOT HAVE A VOICE HERE.
So if you are mean… go to one of the many places that enjoy tearing others down. There are plenty. This is not your place.
